The collection contains records relating to Miriam Carlson's work as an educator and administrator at Anchorage Community College. The collection is divided into three series. Series one contains personal papers of Miriam Carlson, including a photo, curriculum vitae, and her master's thesis. Series two contains records from Anchorage Community College. The series is divided into six subseries including planning documents, teacher's contracts, accreditation evaluations, budgets, reports to the Alaska State Legislature, and UAA-ACC merger documents. Series three includes publications from ACC, APU, Kenai Peninsula College, UAA, University of Alaska, and other sources.

Miriam "Mim" Carlson was born on September 18, 1930, in Keene, New Hampshire. She received a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of New Hampshire in 1952, and a master's degree in social work from Smith College in 1954. In 1956, she married Louis Carlson. After moving to Alaska in 1973, she served as a sociology professor at Anchorage Community College (ACC), and later as both director of the Social Science Division and as Vice Chancellor of Instruction.
